CIRENCESTER CAR CLUB MOTORSPORT' WEEKEND A GREAT SUCCESS
The inaugural Cirencester Car Club Motorsport Weekend was held in perfect weather conditions over the 10th, 11th & 12th of August at The Highwayman Inn near Cirencester. Designed to coincide with National Motorsport Week, the event provided an opportunity for anybody with a car to take part in numerous grass-roots Motorsport activities including a scatter rally, simple driving tests, grass autotests, car treasure hunts, and a touring assembly through the beautiful Cotswold countryside.
Attended by in excess of 120 people, the event was a huge success for the club who also increased its membership by 25 as a direct result of the weekend's activities. As well as giving the 25 new members a first taste of Motorsport, the non-car-damaging tests also encouraged plenty of long standing club members to return to competition in a wide range of vehicles from their family shopping car, through pristine classics to purpose built competition cars. The event attracted all age groups and all levels of driving experience with the emphasis being on having fun whilst trying to out-score friends and family.
Each entrant received an official rally plate and professionally produced road book containing instructions for each of the driving activities and details about the club and its other activities. For those who needed a break from the driving seat the club provided a Motorsport quiz, a static marshalling display with a number of rally cars and assorted classic cars to have a look at. Families were well catered for, as children enjoyed assisting their parents on the driving test and treasure hunts which required them to identify locations from photographs and collect treasure.
After such a successful event the club intend to build on this years experience to run a similar event in 2008. Details of this year's Motorsport Weekend and other Cirencester Car Club events can be found at www.cirencestercarclub.com along with dates and details of forthcoming events. Details of Motorsport Weekend 2008 will appear on the website in due course.
