CSMA Club members in the NW MSG are busy preparing for their big Autosolo/PCA event on 24 June at Lymm Services on M6 J20.. The event is also part of the National Motorsport Week promoting newcomers to get involved in motorsport. Regulations ( rules and entry form!) for the above event will be found on www.anwcc.org from May 2012.

Autosolo/ PCA events are ideal for newcomers as they require no previous experience, no special training and no special competition car. For cheap motorsport this is as good as it gets! You use your own car and entry fees are under £25 using your CSMA Club membership card.

Santa Pod Raceway may be Europe’s premier Dragstrip, attracting some of the world’s greatest drivers, but for National Motorsport Week (30TH June to 8th July), the Northamptonshire venue hopes to attract some fresh talent from closer to home – by offering all local residents free track time!

The innovative move sees the FIA-approved track being made available at no cost to anyone from either an MK or NN postcode on Saturday the 30th June. On this day, The ‘Pod will be running one of its legendary ‘Run What You Brung’ (or ‘RWYB’) days, where anyone is welcome to turn up in their road car and race on the strip – all day long.

Local residents simply need to attend the day and show their driving licence to prove their postcode (it’s also a requirement for signing onto the track) before being able to perfect their launch technique and gear-changing prowess on one of the most superbly prepared track surfaces in the World, driving in the tyre tracks of some of the sport’s true legends like Andy Carter and Don Garlitts.

In conjunction with the MIA and National Motorsport week, M-Sport – the company behind Ford’s assault on the World Rally Championship (WRC) since 1997 – will open its doors for students to attend a unique engineering seminar on Monday 2 July.

M-Sport have a long history of supporting emerging talent, and the seminar aims to provide prospective engineers with an insight in to what careers are available within the UK motorsport industry.

Following a behind-the-scenes tour of the company’s state-of-the-art facilities at Dovenby Hall in Cumbria, attendees will have the opportunity to put their questions to one of the team’s experienced rally engineers in the Ford World Rally Team hospitality unit.

The seminar is open to all engineering students, regardless of course or level. But with places limited to just 20 spaces, those wishing to attend should register their interest via an email to enquiries@m-sport.co.ukdetailing why they should be selected.
Registrations close at 12 noon on Tuesday 26 June, and selected attendees will be informed via email no later than Thursday 28 June.

The BMMC and SMT have been promised a recruitment stand by Allsports at the British Grand Prix. We will be collecting the contact details of anyone interested in marshalling so that they can be invited to a "taster day" to find out what is involved. On a taster day potential marshals are taken on a tour in the morning and briefed on a wide range of marshalling jobs; in the afternoon they then have an opportunity to work alongside experienced marshals in a discipline of their choosing. In this way they get a chance to decide if marshalling as an activity that suits them before they go to the expense of joining a club or buying any kit.

Aintree Circuit Club - Classic and Modern Motorsport Display at Victorian Market - Fri, 6 Jul 2012

Visitors to Ormskirk’s specially arranged Vintage Market this Friday are in for a rare treat, with a display of classic and modern motorsport cars and motorcycles in the town centre.

Created by Aintree Circuit Club (ACC) as an element of National Motorsport Week to be a part of the Mary Portas ‘Love your Market’ initiative, the motorsport display will include a classic Norton racing motorcycle, an iconic Jaguar E-Type, and one of the last production Mini-Coopers, as well as other classic racing motorcycles and modern race and rally cars.

‘We have worked closely with West Lancashire Borough Council to organise this display at the time of the Victorian Market,’ said ACC Chairman, Mike Ashcroft. ‘Ormskirk attracts 3000 visitors each market day and the added attractions of the Victorian event coupled to the motorsport display should make it all very special,’ adding that he didn’t expect the Victorian policeman on his penny farthing bicycle to be able to match the speed of his own MG race car!

The motorsport display will run from 11:30am to 1:30pm and is a precursor to the ACC organised Ormskirk Motorfest, a free to visit automotive spectacular that will be held in the town on Bank Holiday Sunday, 26th August when upwards of 250 vehicles will be on view.

Anglian Autosolo Challenge Round 3 - Sun, 8 Jul 2012

Following on from the successful running of Rounds 1 & 2 of the Anglian Autosolo Challenge we return to Waterbeach Airfield by kind permission of the MoD for Round 3, this time organised by Eastern Counties Motor Club.

The Autosolos will be all-forwards tests, timed to a tenth of a second but without the need to remember the test layout because it is marked up on each pylon where you next need to go. The MSA regulations require that all cars for this event are Taxed and Insured like any legal road car and driven to the event.

The Autotests will also be all-forwards and similar to the Autosolo but the classes will be slightly different and will also allow for untaxed and trailered vehicles. This will enable cars such as gymkhana, trials cars and autotest cars that would be used off the highway ordinarily to compete.

In July 2013, Aston Martin Racing customers have the opportunity to celebrate Aston Martin’s 100th birthday in style at the Aston Martin Centenary Festival. An exclusive Aston Martin only race has been organised in conjunction with the Aston Martin Owners Club and Motorsport Vision Racing at one of the most iconic circuits in the world, Brands Hatch.

The race, open to all categories of Aston Martin Racing cars from the last decade and some classics, will take place over 100 minutes, in celebration of Aston Martin’s centenary year and will be the highlight of what promises to be an historic weekend. It will emulate the successful Le Mans Festival race from last year.

The festival will celebrate the power, beauty and soul of Aston Martin’s racing and road car heritage. Machines ranging from classics like the DB4 Lightweight up to the latest Vantage GT3 will share the track in a spectacular display of competition pedigree.
