Hexagon is proud to announce the first of many Le Mans legends to star at its charity evening this summer: 1970 winner Richard Attwood.

Celebrating the world's oldest sports car endurance race, Hexagon is putting together a panel of famous endurance drivers for its July 5th event to be held at its flagship Finchley showroom.

Richard Attwood is one the UK's most talented and revered single seater and sports car racing endurance drivers. He competed in 17 World Championship Grand Prixs, racing for BRM, Lotus and Cooper, scoring one podium and 11 championship points.

At the same time as he was racing in F1, he began an extremely successful sports car endurance racing career, driving everything from a Ford GT40 in 1964 at Le Mans, to several Ferraris including the 250LM and 330P3/4. Signed to the Porsche works team in 1969, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 in a Porsche 917K, coming second in 1971.

First run in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is the world's oldest endurance race for sports cars and forms one part of the famous Triple Crown of Motorsport, the others being the Indianapolis 500 and the Monaco Grand Prix.

Taking place on the Circuit de la Sarthe over a mix of closed public roads and a dedicated racing circuit, the track features landmarks such as the high speed Mulsanne straight and iconic Porsche Curves.

Raising money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity, the evening will feature not just famous faces but star cars too, with appearances from a host of period endurance racers and an auction of motorsport memorabilia.

Paul Michaels, chairman of Hexagon Classics, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to confirm that Richard Attwood will be one of our guests at our charity evening this July. The word legend is often overused, but thereÕs no better way of describing Richard. He's synonymous with Porsche at Le Mans but has had an incredible career in F1 too - I can't wait to hear his many stories. And I can't wait to announce some more famous names for our panel too. Watch this space.

"Most importantly, though, this evening will raise money for a charity that is very close to my heart. My granddaughter owes her life to the care she received while at Great Ormond Street and I am so happy that we will be able to give something back to this great hospital - and the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals too - helping them to continue their incredible work. Last summer's celebration of Ayrton Senna raised £72,000 and we have every intention of eclipsing that incredible figure."

Hexagon's 24 Hours of Le Mans celebration evening will take place on July 5th at 730pm at Hexagon's flagship north London showroom located at 82-92 Great North Road, London, N2 0NL.

Tickets cost £195 and include food from Michelin star chef Christian Honor. Interested guests are asked to RSVP: [email protected] or call 07711 169 111
