Ormskirk MotorFest

A fabulous fleet of cars was on display in Ormskirk town centre to help launch one of the biggest free family events in the north west. Ormskirk MotorFest 2014 takes place Sunday 24 August and thousands of people will visit Ormskirk to see around 250 marvellous cars and motorcycles on display on Moor Street, Aughton Street and Coronation Park.

People were given a taste of what this year’s MotorFest will have to offer when a number of classic vehicles were parked by the clock tower on Saturday 12 July to officially launch the event. The display was also organised to coincide with National Motorsport Week, which ran from 5 July to 13 July, and vehicles on show included a Ferrari 328; two Porsche 911s; an MG ZR Racing Saloon; a BMW racing saloon; a Morgan +4; a Ford Mustang; a Lotus 7; a racing kart and a replica of a bike that motorcycle road racing legend Mike Hailwood rode in TT races.

Ormskirk MotorFest is organised each year by Aintree Circuit Club with the support of West Lancashire Borough Council. An estimated 25,000 people enjoyed the superb attractions in August 2013, and organisers are busy planning to make this year even bigger and better as 2014 also marks the 60th anniversary of Aintree Circuit Club.

Cllr David Griffiths, portfolio holder for town and village centres, said: “The MotorFest is a fantastic event for Ormskirk and the line-up of vehicles on Saturday 12 July was a great way of giving people a glimpse of what treats will be in store on the big day. Make sure you put the date of 24 August in your diary so you don’t miss the free marvellous MotorFest.”

Mike Ashcroft, Aintree Circuit Club chairman, said: Many wonderful vehicles will be on display at the MotorFest and a lot of them will be taking part in the popular parade laps around the town. We are planning some great attractions to make the MotorFest a great day out for”
