Summer Social Car Meet

WHETHER you're a motor racing fanatic who would love to get involved in the sport or would just like a fresh challenge in the New Year - the British Motorsports Marshals Club is always looking for volunteers.

Marshals are an essential part of motorsport and all circuits, including Rockingham, depend on these volunteers to make all race meetings happen, whether it is the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship or a club-level event.

As part of its annual training and recruitment drive, the British Motor Racing Marshals Club South Midland Region, is inviting existing and new volunteers to a special two-day event at the Northamptonshire circuit next month (February).

The first training day on Saturday, February 7, is for current marshals moving up the national grading ladder, and will include sessions on flags, report writing, communications, leadership and mentoring. Anyone interested should contact Training Coordinator John Turner at [email protected]

On Sunday, February 8, the training day will be for all grades of marshals with sessions especially for new recruits. This will cover all aspects of marshalling from basic skills and first aid through to incident handling and recovery both in the classroom and on track.

Assistant Circuit Manager at Rockingham, Nick Breed, said: "From the paddock and pit lane to working trackside, marshals are a vital member of the team at all circuits, and without the goodwill of these enthusiastic volunteers we wouldnÕt be able to run our race meetings.

"We are once again delighted and honoured to be the venue for the British Motorsport Marshals Club South Midlands Region training and recruitment weekend and are pleased to offer the classroom, fire training materials and of course the circuit free of charge."

British Motorsports Marshals Club South Midlands Region Training Coordinator, John Turner, added: "These training days allow existing marshals to brush up their skills before the start of the season. It's also an opportunity for new marshals to learn the basics and mix with fellow enthusiasts.

"I'd like say thanks to Nick and the team at Rockingham as we wouldn't be able to run the training without their support."
