High speed thrills raise more funds for St Teresa's

Croft Circuit wishes to thank Darlington & District Motor Club and its competitors plus the public for making the venue’s National Motorsport Week activity last Thursday (5 July) such a huge success.

Six drivers from the DDMC’s Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship brought along their racing cars and provided some 90 passenger experiences for enthusiasts who each paid £5 per go.

In all some £450 was raised for St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington, Croft Circuit’s chosen charity.

The exhilarating event marked Croft’s contribution during National Motorsport Week – an annual nationwide celebration of the UK’s world-class motor sport industry which also saw all eight of the country’s Formula 1 teams get involved in the run-up to the weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Croft Circuit Manager Tracey Morley commented: “What a fabulous event and a fabulous experience for the public and, of course, combined we’ve raised yet more funds for St Teresa’s.

“Darlington & District Motor Club’s members were terrific – the drivers are used to 20 minute sprint races but kept on going for almost three hours! Some felt as if they’d been in the Le Mans 24 Hours by the end of it but they truly got into the spirit of National Motorsport Week which is all about showing people there’s just as much – if not more – fun at grass roots levels of motor sport.”

The Northern Saloon & Sports Car Championship will be back in race action at Croft Circuit in less than a fortnight on the weekend of 21/22 July. The NSSCC has attracted close to 80 registrations making it Great Britain’s best-subscribed club-level race championship. Colin Simpson currently leads the standings from impressive youngster Martin Addison (Yarm) who is embroiled in a titanic battle for Class D supremacy against former Champion Paul Moss (Darlington) and another emerging star Myles Collins (Knaresborough).

Also on the bill will be races from the ‘slicks and wings’ Formula Renault BARC single-seater category – on the grid are drivers with aspirations of international motor sport stardom and many predict these cars will set the fastest lap of any category all season around the 2.125-mile Croft track.

The Porsche Club GB, Porsche GT3 Cup, Mazda MaX 5, Honda V-Tec and Citroen 2CV series will be in action, as well, making for a staggering 16 races in all.

Admission for accompanied children aged 15 and under is FREE all weekend. Tickets for adults are just £12 per day and can be prchased on the www.croftcircuit.co.uk website or by calling the Circuit on 01325 721815.
