National Motorsport Week 2012

Following the great success of last year’s National Motorsport Week, the Motor Sports Association (MSA) and Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) have confirmed that this year’s National Motorsport Week will run from Saturday 30 June to Sunday 8 July 2012. The dates have been selected as this is already an extremely high-profile period for the sport including both the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Santander British Grand Prix.

With additional support from the MSA, in 2011 the initiative generated a massive increase in activities and events ranging from open days at M-Sport in Cumbria and fund raising cycle rides around Silverstone to a plethora of novice taster days organised by motor clubs throughout the country.

National Motorsport Week 2011 also achieved widespread exposure across TV, radio, print and online media. David Coulthard’s first experiences of grass roots motor sport aired to more than three million viewers as part of the BBC’s coverage of the European GP at the start of the week. Other national media carried dedicated National Motorsport Week stories including BBC Radio 5 Live, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mirror and The Sun, as well as specialist publications Autosport and Autocar.

Almost 10,000 enthusiasts entered a series of online competitions to win factory tours at the eight UK-based Formula One teams. These competitions were hosted on the MSA’s www.GoMotorsport.net website which enjoyed a ten fold increase in visitor numbers during National Motorsport Week.

There’s a tremendous amount to celebrate, as the UK remains the world leader of motor sport on all fronts. As well as producing far more than its share of World Champions and being home to the majority of F1 teams, the UK boasts a thriving grass roots motor sport scene with the MSA sanctioning more than 5000 motor sport fixtures for 30,000+ competition licence holders every year.

National Motor Sport Week not only highlights the UK’s prominence in both national and international motor sport but also provides everyone involved with the perfect platform from which to promote their own activities. The potential is enormous from race teams staging open days for local schools to venues organising fun runs – it’s a great CSR opportunity to generate media coverage and goodwill.

What’s more both the MSA and MIA will help you to promote your individual events/activities if you keep us up to speed with your plans – already we have many F1 teams, circuits, teams and other stakeholders making special plans for the week and we are confident we will have an amazing list of experiences to announce over the coming weeks. As was proven last year we have established strong links the national media all keen to promote what’s going on during National Motorsport Week.

To help all stakeholders to take full advantage of National Motorsport Week, we are making the official NMW logos available to all and also have prepared a special ‘Toolkit’, which we hope you’ll find a useful guide. That said please don’t hesitate to contact us should you need any further advice or information. Either way we hope you agree this is a fantastic chance for us to promote the UK’s on-going prominence in motor sport and help to secure a strong future for all involved in the sport.
